Phytotaxa ( Phytotaxa )  289 ( 1 ) 69 - 76   2016.12 [ Peer Review Accepted ]

Type of publication: Research paper (scientific journal)

　View Summary

A new species of Primulaceae from Thailand, Lysimachia kraduengensis, is described and illustrated. It is morphologically similar to L. engleri, L. lancifolia, L. laxa and L. sikokiana in having solitary and axillary flowers, a yellow corolla, relatively long pedicels and basifixed anthers. The new species can be distinguished by the combination of its height, leaf texture, petiole, calyx and anther length, and brown coloration on the flowers. In addition, the conservation status, an updated key to Lysimachia species in Thailand, and discussion of the systematic placement of the new species based on the trnL-F marker of chloroplast DNA are provided.

Twenty four species of Lasianthus are documented from Bokor National Park, Kampot Province, Cambodia. Four new species, Lasianthus bokorensis, L. giganteus, L. oblanceolatus, and L. stephanocalycinus, are described based on newly collected materials. Nine species, L. austrosinensis, L. biflorus, L. chevalieri, L. clementis, L. curtisii, L. hispidulus, L. latifolius, L. sarmentosus, and L. viridiramulis, are newly recorded from Cambodia. Lasianthus viridiramulis is proposed as a replacement name for Lasianthus brevipes Craib non Valeton.

Since this is the fi rst account of the genus Reinwardtiodendron to the fl ora of Thailand, the key to the genera of Meliaceae (based on fl owers) in Thailand is revised.

Breeding System and Seed Production in Pin‐monomorphic Populations of a Distylous Perennial, Ophiorrhiza japonica (Rubiceae) on Iriomote Island, Japan

NAKAGAWA Masato, NAIKI Akiyo

Acta Phytotaxonomica et Geobotanica ( 日本植物分類学会 )  65 ( 1 ) 43 - 48   2014.02 [ Peer Review Accepted ]

Type of publication: Research paper (scientific journal)

　View Summary

The breeding system and seed production of a distylous perennial, Ophiorrhiza japonica, were analyzed on Iriomote Island, located near the southwestern end of the Ryukyu Islands. On Iriomote, O. japonica is monomorphic with a pin morph. Artificial pollination experiments confirmed self- and intramorph compatibility in the populations, but automatic self-pollination was not detected. Seed set in 12 sampling plots in two natural populations was constant and abundant, indicating high pollinator availability. Our results indicate that self compatibility can be assumed to have been important in the establishment of the monomorphic populations on Iriomote Island. The loss of distyly is not characterized by specialization in self-fertilization, but rather intramorph compatibility can be assumed to have been more important in maintenance of the pin-monomorphic population as a factor facilitating outbreeding

Development of microsatellite markers for Croomia japonica and cross-amplification in its congener

Ming Fang, Chen-Xi Fu, Cheng-Xin Fu, You-Lin Zhu, Akiyo Naiki, En-Xiang Li

SCIENTIA HORTICULTURAE ( ELSEVIER SCIENCE BV )  161   228 - 232   2013.09 [ Peer Review Accepted ]

Type of publication: Research paper (scientific journal)

　View Summary

Croomia is a small monocotyledonous genus with eastern Asian eastern North American floristic disjunction. The Croomia species are endangered and in urgent need of conservation. In this study, we report the development and characterization of 11 polymorphic compound microsatellite markers from Croomia japonica. Moreover, transferability and polymorphism of these primers was tested across Croomia heterosepala and Croomia pauciflora. All of them were transferable and polymorphic in these species. The number of alleles per locus ranged from 2 to 14 (mean: 7.7), 2 to 20 (mean: 7.3) and 2 to 16 (mean: 8.2), while the observed (and expected) heterozygosities ranged from 0.053 to 1.000 (0.053-0.918), 0.000 to 1.000 (0.656-0.945) and 0.190 to 0.905 (0.251-0.937) in populations of C japonica, C heterosepala and C pauciflora, respectively. Most loci in the Croomia populations deviated significantly from the HWE expectations. Significant heterozygosity deficiency was found but no bottleneck was detected in Croomia. These polymorphic markers will be useful tool to study the genetic diversity and the population genetic structure, evolution of Croomia species and for establishment of effective conservation strategies.
