Exploiting the vacant spectrum resource at mmWave bands provides the potential for fulfilling the requirements of broadband services. Nevertheless, the sensitivity of mmWave to blockages together with its directionality bring new technical challenges in the vehicular context. In particular, traditional beam training is inadequate in satisfying low communication overhead and small latency, and the influence of the same blockage on a fixed position varies according to vehicle motion. To facilitate fast beam alignment, fingerprint- based method stands out as an efficient solution, where the utilities of selecting different beam pairs are recorded in the fingerprint database for reference at a given position. In order to better orchestrate fingerprint-based method with vehicular scenarios, we propose the idea of trajectory-aware fingerprint, which extracts the combined effect of mobility, propagation environment, and blockages, so as to faithfully reflect the transmitting condition in mobile scenarios. Then, a light-weight machine learning framework is established for intelligent adaptation among multiple fingerprints to find a near-optimal BS association and beam alignment solution. Finally, the simulation result verifies the performance improvements.

In this paper, we propose a new Slepian-Wolf (SW) video coding that supports resolution-progressive transmission. It can realize low-delay low-resolution real time streaming as well as high lossless coding efficiency. Intra-frame video coding is performed as the base layer coder for down-sampled input video and a SW coder is used as the enhancement layer coder for lossless archiving. In order to improve SW lossless coding efficiency, we introduce inter-layer prediction between the base layer and the enhancement layer. It uses inter-layer prediction to increase the accuracy of Motion Estimation (ME). Simulations show that the proposed scheme gives higher coding performance better than the JPEG2000 lossless mode.

This paper introduces a rate-adaptive FireFort-LDGM (FF-LDGM) code for MMT adaptive Application Layer FEC (AL-FEC). The FF-LDGM code is an ISO/IEC MPEG international standard issued in Feb. 2015. It can handle a wade range of block lengths from a small number of packets to several thousands of packets. Especially, it is useful for real-time UHD video transmission. In this paper, we focus on recent advances in the rate adaptive FF-LDGM code. It provides a rate adaptive function that allows the coding rate to be adaptively changed to suit the network characteristic. We improve the error recovery performance of the rate-adaptive scheme by using selective interleaving. Simulation results demonstrate its superior adaptive performance.

This paper introduces a FireFort-LDGM (FF-LDGM) code that is part of ISO/IEC 23008-10 (MMT AL-FEC codes) and its application to robust Ultra High Definition (UHD) video transmission. It is especially useful for UHD real-time video streaming because that it can easily handle contiguous streams containing over several thousand packets. Simulation results show its high error recovery performance with low-complexity. We also show a robust UHD video transmission scheme that uses the FF-LDGM code and its feasibility via 8K Super High-Vision live streaming over global shared IP networks at FIFA World Cup 2014 Brazil.
