View Summary

This study explores heat transfer through natural convection experiments and thermal simulations of an educational coffee roaster. Using a simple silicon rubber heater, students measure heat transfer coefficients, bridging theory and practice. The simulation of the roaster, powered by a gas stove, analyzes temperature distribution and heat flow, validated by experimental data. Results show that integrating experiments and simulations enhances students' understanding of heat transfer, offering valuable insights into optimizing roaster dsign and heat efficiency, thus linking theoretical knowledge with practical application.

  • Protect our beautiful oceans! Children observe microplastics using the HORIBA microplastic observation kit

    Author: Other

     View Summary

HORIBA developed an educational microplastic observation kit in 2022, enabling visualization of microplastics in sand from beaches and rivers. In February 2024, they held hands-on workshops in Okinawa at schools and a student science exhibition, in collaboration with Prof. Makiko Okamoto of the University of the Ryukyus. Using the kit, children can observe microplastics invisible to the naked eye, raising awareness of plastic pollution close to their daily lives. They also explore applications such as studying traditional Ryukyushi paper, soil and biodegradable plastics.
