View Summary

In this study, we organized the current state of the educational system in elementary school programming education, junior high school technology education, and technical high school in Okinawa prefecture, and conducted a questionnaire survey of educators. As a result, even if there are opportunities to learn about robots and sensors in elementary school programming education with the cooperation of manufacturing companies, about one-third of junior high schools in Okinawa cannot sufficiently learn about measurement and control. In addition, although there are many students who go on to technical high schools to learn manufacturing compared to the rest of the country, the placement of teachers at technical high schools is not sufficient, and it is assumed that the training of human resources for manufacturing in Okinawa is not functioning well.

  • Protect our beautiful oceans! Children observe microplastics using the HORIBA microplastic observation kit

    Author: Other

     View Summary

HORIBA developed an educational microplastic observation kit in 2022, enabling visualization of microplastics in sand from beaches and rivers. In February 2024, they held hands-on workshops in Okinawa at schools and a student science exhibition, in collaboration with Prof. Makiko Okamoto of the University of the Ryukyus. Using the kit, children can observe microplastics invisible to the naked eye, raising awareness of plastic pollution close to their daily lives. They also explore applications such as studying traditional Ryukyushi paper, soil and biodegradable plastics.
