     View Summary

The magnetic structure of the intermetallic compound EuGa4was investigated using single-crystal neutron diffraction with the time-of-flight (TOF) Laue technique on the new diffractometer SENJU at the Materials and Life Science Experimental Facility (MLF) of the Japan Proton Accelerator Research Complex (J-PARC). Despite of the high neutron absorption of Eu, a vast number of diffraction spots were observed without isotope enrichment. The magnetic reflections appeared at positions with diffraction indices of h+ k+ l≠ 2nbelow 16 K, indicating that the ordering vector is <inline-formula><tex-math version="MathJax"><![CDATA[\(\boldsymbol{{q}} = (0,0,0)\)]]></tex-math></inline-formula>. The continuous evolution of the magnetic reflection intensity below TNfollows a squared Brillouin function for S= 7/2. By adopting a wavelength-dependent absorption collection, the magnetic structure of EuGa4was revealed that a nearly full magnetic moment of 6.4 μBof Eu lies within the basal plane of the lattice. In this study, we reveal a well-localized divalent Eu magnetism in EuGa4and demonstrate a high ability of SENJU to investigate materials with high neutron absorption.

     View Summary

Magnetic neutron diffraction measurements were carried out on the heavy-fermion antiferromagnet CeRhIn5 under hydrostatic pressure. The incommensurate (IC) magnetic ordering is known to be characterized by the propagation vector tau = (0.5,0.5, +/-delta). We have found that when the temperature is lowered at P similar to 1.48 GPa, the magnetic Bragg peak with delta = 0.326 rapidly disappears and instead a new Bragg peak with delta = 0.391 suddenly emerges at a temperature close to the superconducting transition temperature. This suggests the possibility that the antiferromagnetic order is affected by the superconductivity.
